The ILAX Board of Directors in concert with member clubs continue to monitor the evolving COVID19 situation in the state. ILAX has shared recommended "Return to Play" guidelines for member clubs as they consider future lacrosse activities. The guidelines were in the form of a COVID19 Action Plan and were gleaned from the latest US Lacrosse guidance. More details can be found in the article below.
Several member youth clubs returned to the field this fall when schools re-opened and fall sports got underway. Clubs report they are using the ILAX guidance which will help assure consistency in the safety measures taken for players, coaches, parents, officials and fans. Feel free to contact the Association if you have additional questions.
With several Iowa youth lacrosse clubs having returned to the field this past fall, and all clubs actively planning for the spring season, it remains critical to return as safely as possible. US Lacrosse has provided extensive "Return to Play" recommendations for clubs and leagues to follow. The Iowa Lacrosse Association has distilled those recommendations down to a COVID19 Action Plan template that clubs can use to help mitigate the coronavirus exposure to players, coaches, parents, officials and fans.
A copy of the ILAX COVID19 Action Plan template as well as the USL recommendations are found below.
As is the case across the country, boys and girls in Iowa are discovering the exciting sport of lacrosse. If you are interested in trying lacrosse, or have played in the past and are looking for a new lacrosse home, there are several clubs in the state with youth programs. More information about those clubs is available here.
ILAX OFFERS MENS & WOMENS GAME TRAINING
Starting with classroom training in January and February, ILAX has helped facilitate US Lacrosse officials training for new officials. The effort culminated with 3 mens officials being evaluated on field during high school boys scrimmages at Tiger Field in West Des Moines on March 7. Those officials are now credentialed and can work high school games.
Bob Hofer from Omaha did the US Lacrosse evaluations, and the event also attracted several local officials from other sports that were able to shadow the action. More recruiting and training is being planned. Anyone with interest in becoming an official should contact the Association.
Several Iowa youth clubs were able to return to the field this past fall. Those clubs adopted strong COVID19 protocols to help protect players, coaches, officials and fans that participated. Despite the pandemic, clubs are planning for the upcoming spring season, but their activities could be curtailed depending on area schools’ positions on extra-curricular activities.
Despite the challenges of the pandemic and a cancelled season, our Association accomplished several goals in the past year. For more details and to see what we hope to work on in the future, check out the organization's 2019-20 Annual Report below.
